 A wedding to remember

A wedding to remember

20 Oct, 2011 10:08 AM
Brett John Davis and Alexandra Kate Hammond joined in Marriage on the First of October 2011

IT WAS the perfect setting for the perfect wedding. The Markdale gardens in full bloom.

Not red, but ivory carpet edged with Topiary shrubs joined with chiffon made an elegant aisle leading to the marriage gazebo which was decorated with strands of pearls and Swarovski crystals that hung freely from three sides. A beautiful white dove was perched at the front of each pillar.

The Bride and her six maids were to make their way across the manicured lawn, through an arch way at the top of two steps, then onto the ivory carpet and down to meet her Groom waiting anxiously at the other end.

Well, that’s how it would have been, but for the rain!

Two minutes before the bride arrived, the rain got so heavy that every guest was wet. There were people who had never met before huddled together sharing umbrellas.

The decision was made to abandon the garden and head for the marquee!

The marquee beautifully set for the High Tea which followed the ceremony, had roses hanging from the walls and covered tables with centre pieces of assorted flowers. Along one wall, lay all the food, urns, crockery and cutlery. This needed to be rearranged! It was all hands on deck, everyone pitched in. There were people rolling out tables, others were wiping down chairs, still more placing the chairs into some sort of order in an attempt to fit approximately 180 guests into this marquee. The signing table, the aisle of carpet, the topiary shrubs as well as the white doves all found their way down to the marquee. A section of the end wall was taken down to let the light in and the DJ even managed to move all his equipment without getting electrocuted. We had the most perfect guests at this perfect wedding. We also had our perfect bride, who sat waiting patiently in her car unperturbed by any of this.

Everything was reorganised within fifteen minutes. And the rain stopped!

The bridesmaids made their entrance wearing strapless, satin gowns of apricot/salmon pink, carrying a bouquet of ivory and pink flowers and holding an ivory coloured lace parasol.

The bride entered the room on the arm of her father Robert, wearing an exquisite gown of ivory lace over oyster satin adorned with beautiful pearls and sparkling crystals. She carried a gorgeous bouquet of pink flowers also highlighted by pearls and crystals.

The groom along with his attendants wore black tails, cream shirts with an apricot coloured tie. Standing together with the bride and her maids, made for the perfect picture.

The ceremony was followed by the High Tea which consisted of an assortment of sandwiches, slices, cupcakes, profiteroles, scones, quiches and vol-au-vents.

All of this, finished with a chocolate fountain.

The reception was held at the Crookwell Services Club. The only word that I can find to describe its beauty on this very special night is WOW!! The room was decorated in ivory and apricot pink chiffon & satin, there were fairy lights and crystals on and behind the bridal table. On each of the seventeen guest tables was an ivory coloured iron birdcage centre piece, decorated with pink flowers and Swarovski crystals, holding three battery powered Tea candles which glowed in hues of blue, pink and green and these sat slowly rotating the whole night on their little turntables.

The four tier wedding cake, a gift from the Grooms aunt, was magnificently decorated with handmade ivory and pink flowers and studded with shining diamantes. This added the final touch to the elaborately decorated room. It truly was WOW!

Sarah, the clubs new cook, worked tirelessly to get our meal cooked and served on time, it was the biggest function she has ever had to cope with and we were all pleased with her efforts. Thank you Sarah!

Thank you also Sue and Marion and to all the staff who worked so hard for us, both in the kitchen and behind the bar on this special occasion.

In conclusion, the rain did not hinder us on this day, it merely added to its beauty and excitement. It brought people together and showed the true spirit of family and friends.
