GROWING in popularity each year, the Crookwell Australia Day Breakfast is a fantastic opportunity for the community to connect and celebrate the privilege it is to live in the lucky country. This year the event will again be held in the beautiful setting of the Crookwell Memorial Park with ample tree cover and the wonderful gardens.
The celebrations kick off at 8am with a BBQ breakfast served by the Crookwell Lions Club, Rotary Club of Crookwell and the CWA Evening Branch with the CWA Day Branch providing morning tea and the drinks handled by the Crookwell Fire Brigades.
Once again this year, Unity band will entertain with some Australian classics, there will be fun for the kids with a range of games and face painting and the adults will enjoy a trivia contest and Aussie challenges.
The official ceremony will include the announcement of the 2012 Citizen of the Year, the 2012 Young Citizen of the Year and the 2012 Event of the Year and we are thrilled to have actor/authors Bruce Venables and Judy Nunn as our Australia Day Ambassadors for 2012 who will deliver the address.
Bruce met his wife Judy in the early 80’s and was immediately attracted to the bright lights of the world of entertainment. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice he soon found his way into musical theatre and then a successful TV and film career appearing in nearly 30 feature films and shows such as Blue Healers and Water Rats. When not acting and singing, Bruce has been busy writing including bestselling novel “A Necessary Evil”, “The Hong Kong Trilogy” and a book of his poetical works entitled “The Spirit of the Bush”.
Judy Nunn hails from Perth and at the ripe old age of 19 arrived in Sydney and worked in radio followed by performing in the hugely successful JC Williamson theatre production of “The Odd Couple”. Judy then spent nearly 6 years in London achieving a high profile in theatre and also working for BBC Radio and appearing on TV. Returning to Australia, Judy toured the hit play “Don’s Party” before being offered a role in the famous Crawford TV show “The Box”. Prior to her 13 year stint as “Ailsa” in Home & Away, Judy carved out a successful career in Australian film and television. Like husband Bruce, Judy is also an author with 11 best sellers to her name including “Heritage”, “Floodtide” and “Maralinga” with the most recent “Tiger Men” leaping straight into the top ten lists.
