FOR the past 10 years, every September, Gunning has hosted one of the largest fireworks displays to be held outside of Sydney.
The event has primarily been the trade show of Fireworks Australia, a major fireworks importer, who stage the event to demonstrate new and exciting fireworks effects for their clients, who come from all over Australia and New Zealand for the weekend.
The event was held at the Gunning Golf Course since 2001. The attendance has grown increasingly each year and a new larger venue was needed to stage the show, hence the move to the Gunning Showground.
The Gunning Fireworks Festival will bring alive the Gunning Showground this Saturday, September 11, from 2pm until 9pm in a new and exciting format.
Never before has Gunning hosted an event on this scale. The afternoon will provide entertainment for families,
young and old alike.
There will be a large range of amusement rides - giant slide, cha cha, jumping castle’s, jungle gym, dodgems, clowns, chair-o-plane, to cater for all ages, including free rides on a mechanical bull to test the skills of budding rodeo riders.
For the reptile lovers there will be an extensive free reptile display where handlers will supervise safe handling of the creatures.
For the smaller children there will be free face painting and free Country Energy showbags (to the first 70 children), free stilt walking lessons and clown acts to liven up the fun.
An exciting highlight of the festival will be the attendance of the Airforce Balloon which will offer free tethered balloon flights to anyone who cares to take to the skies.
Information will also be available for anyone interested in a career in the Airforce.
Music lovers will be able to while away the hours by listening to local bands, The 3 D’s and Unity will be playing continuously throughout the afternoon.
Then the Goulburn Pipe Band will march out some stirring tunes - they are in need of new members so talk to them about joining the band, followed by The Hall Brass Band’s amazing sounds which will echo through the town of Gunning.
Keen photographers can enter their pictures of any fireworks displays they have taken photo’s of in the past to win cash prizes. And don’t forget to bring your cameras along as next year’s competition will be based onphoto’s taken at this year’s Fireworks Festival.
Children can also win prizes by entering paintings of a fireworks display. See the website for full details. www.gunningfireworksfestival. com.au
For the shoppers there will be a range of handcrafts and homemade wares to browse through, wine tasting and local produce to sample. And if all of this activity makes you hungry there will be a wide selection of different foods and beverages on sale.
And this is before we even get to the main highlight of the event. At approximately 6.30pm the fireworks demonstrations will commence where new and exciting fireworks will be shown one at a time for the trade members to view for future displays.
The amazing fireworks finale will bring this fantastic day to a close. The skies over Gunning will be rocked with colour and pyromusical fireworks and special effects.
After the fireworks the amusement rides will continue until 9pm. Be sure not to miss this annual event, bring along chairs and blankets and dress warmly - September can still be cool. You will be entertained and amazed by the fantastic pyromusical display finale.
Entry fee is $10 per adult and $4 for children under 14 or $25 per car/family.
