Local firm expands

03 Feb, 2010 04:32 PM
For the past nine years Gerald and Tom have managed SMR and look forward to a new era with Paul as a principal. Paul has been with the firm for four years, but has over 20 years experience as a qualified accountant in both senior commercial roles and as part of taxation practices and is a Fellow of CPA Australia. He was raised in Crookwell and now lives with his wife and two children on the family farm at Lost River just outside of Crookwell.

This latest change in ownership continues the long standing tradition of the firm being wholly locally owned and operated. Gerald, Tom and now Paul are committed to continuing to provide reliable and expert services along with our widely experienced and technically proficient staff. In the past 12 months a number of staff members have furthered their accounting qualifications. Ryan Seaman completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree while Sarah Hewitt completed her Accounting Certificate with distinction and Edward Atfield is in the final year of his Commerce degree. All staff look forward to continuing to serve our current clients and forging many new friendships with new clients in this exciting new period.

Until recently the practice has formally traded as W.M. Samuel Martin and Rogerson but that will change to SMR Crookwell Pty Ltd with immediate effect, however the firm will continue to be referred to as simply SMR.

SMR has been providing taxation and other professional services to the residents of the Crookwell district and beyond for over 70 years. In recent years, due to the prolonged drought, they have had to expand their services to include becoming expert in the provision of Business Viability Assessments for clients of the Rural Assistance Authority as well as other forms of drought relief such as freight and interest rate subsidies. The firm has a wealth of experience in specific taxation concessions available to both drought affected farmers and farming in general. Retirement planning services is another area that has experienced more demand. To cater for this need the firm has invested heavily in specialist software to provide services such as tracking of share portfolio performance and the administration of Self Managed Superannuation Funds.
