NEARLY 50 years ago Ron and Dawn McDonald opened McDonald Tyre Service in Spring Street, Crookwell.
Since then the business has fitted thousands of tyres to all makes and models of local vehicles.
They have kept the wheels turning nicely through this time!
Recently, retirement for Dawn has seen a change in the business.
Kristopher Laing has officially taken over from Garry, Dawn and little Kaela McDonald at McDonald Tyre Service.
The takeover officiated on Wednesday last week, February 1.
Kristopher is the son of another well known local, Kevin Laing.
Most Crookwell residents would know Kevin who worked at the Crookwell Services Club for 42 years.
Kristopher finished his schooling at Crookwell High School six years ago and began working at McDonald Tyres. He worked beside Garry for around 12 months.
Kris continued working with tyre fitting at Mick and Joes Tyres in Goulburn until the opportunity to buy this business arose.
The Laing’s look forward to keeping a great service to the local community of which the McDonalds were renowned for.
The business name has changed to Laing’s Tyre Service and they will be stocking quality tyres at an affordable price.
Kumho, West Lake and Nexen Tyres will be available to fit motorbikes, cars, trucks, four-wheel-drives and tractors with special orders also available.
They will also be stocking a comprehensive range of batteries and expanding their business down the track.
Sales, fitting and maintenance of quality tyres will be their main aim.
Kevin and Kristopher would like to take this opportunity to welcome new clients and their friends to pop in and see them in their new venture.
Dawn, Garry and Kaela would also like to thank their loyal customers and friends who have supported their business in Crookwell during the past 50 years.
Dawn told the Gazette: “I am looking forward to seeing my family and spending quality time with them during my retirement.
“I am not looking forward to leaving my friends I have made in Crookwell behind, but I will be returning quite often for visits.”
“This has been the hardest part of my decision – my friends know this.”
Garry, Dawn and Kaela are moving to Western Australia to their new home.
