The Jerrawa Landcare Group has praised the part Upper Lachlan Weeds Manager Mr. Paul Brown has played in the Tussock Tamer project.
The project involved the Landcare Group, the Upper Lachlan Council and the Upper Lachlan Catchment Authority.
It was aimed as reducing the impact of serrated tussock in stream areas.
In a letter received at Council’s last meeting, the President of the Jerrawa Group, Mr. Eric Dowling said that the project could certainly now be accounted a success, after losing some impetus for a while due to work pressures on Catchment Authority staff.
He pointed out that after beginning in the Jerrawa Creek catchment and immediate surrounds the project was extended to the entire Upper Lachlan through the Landcare network.
As a result, an adjoining Catchment Authority was looking at introducing a similar project in its area.
More than 55,000 hectares are now being actively managed for noxious weed control.
Mr. Dowling wrote that Paul Brown had been involved in the planning of the project from day one, and his suggestions had helped develop a more effective approach than might otherwise have been possible.
“He was a presenter at all the field days we held as part of the project, where he presented information professionally and with good humour.
“He also undertook a number of visits to land managers with weeds issues of various sorts and who the Catchment Authority had been unable to follow up as quickly as expected,” Mr. Dowling wrote.
“We are very grateful for Paul’s involvement.”
