LOCAL man Aaron Willis has recently received a prestigious award for his 1984 WB Ute. Aaron, who has spent his life savings on his pride and joy, has duly been rewarded for his efforts.
Only finishing the final details the week before, his Ute made it to the ‘Elite Hall’ 2011 at this year’s Summernats 24. Aaron’s 1984 Holden WB Ute was judged best Elite Ute/Pick-up.
The Ute was in the top 20 entrants of the top 60 in the elite class, being an Australian wide selection. The winning overall entry was Peter Fitzpatrick’s FC Sedan from the ACT.
Aaron’s Ute will be featured in the Street Machine Magazine, Summernats edition this week. Aaron’s family and friends were there to see the unveiling and his father Lloyd said, “I am so proud of the young bloke’s achievements as I know how much work he has put into the Ute himself.
“It has been an awesome project and one I am sure he will be very proud of for years to come.” Aaron is delighted with everything that has happened to him lately with his project. In total, this build has taken him three years.
When asked if he will attempt another build Aaron said, “No, not at this stage, but when my son, Cody gets a little older we may decide to build one together.”
Doing up vehicles is a passion for many people. To find a paddock or shed wreck and to rebuild it including your special touch is a great feeling. It is infectious and enjoyable at the same time; ask anyone who has completed a build of their own.
Many people think of their achievements in restoring older vehicles as an investment for the future as many rebuilt vehicles are older models and are considered rare in today’s market.
