LOCAL stock carriers are being rejected at delivery locations because of stock trucks not being washed out properly, an Upper Lachlan Councillor has claimed.
Cr Paul Culhane raised the problem at the August meeting of the Council.
The Crookwell truck wash was closed after an inspection was made by the Department of Environment Climate Change and Water.
The water supply was disconnected and remediation wis proposed out to clean up polluted land and water.
This work will cost Council $15,000 - but there will be a saving of $10,000 a year in maintenance and water charges.
It is estimated it would cost $100,000 to re-open the truck wash facility.
"I know we (Councillors) were very like minded and very reluctant to do what we had to do," said Cr Culhane.
"Since then it has been high-lighted to me by a couple of local truck drivers that there has been incidents of loads going into Southern Meats, for example, and being rejected.
"I think our truckies are all pretty responsible in this area, but if they are under pressure and don't have a truck wash, they will cut corners.
"I know we all said we would come up with a solution, but I think it is a bit more urgent than that."
Cr Culhane foreshadowed before the next meeting there will be a request for either Andrew Thorn or George Charnock to address the Council.
"The truck drivers are having to spend a lot of money that they weren't previously and they are very happy to talk about some form of financial contribution to get the truck wash working," said Cr Culhane.
He asked that Director of Works Mr. Phil Newham "take a close look" at the Goulburn truck wash.
