Bottom of the table battle it out

19 Aug, 2010 03:34 PM
A BATTLE of the two bottom teams in Division Two senior soccer turned out to be a very entertaining game.

Both teams were looking for the win that would ensure they would not finish bottom of the division.

The ball bounced back and forth between the two sides, until Charles Zouch injured his hamstring and was unable to continue.

Ten minutes later Workers Gold were able to split the Crookwell defence and score with a one on one with the goal keeper.

The second half left Crookwell with one sub, but the team pushed forward time and time again.

Most Workers forward moves were countered and John Jacko was causing problems for the Workers’ defence.

Both Addo and Mick Powell were constantly tracking back to cut of Workers’ midfielders.

About 10 minutes from time Workers gave up a free kick a couple of metres outside the penalty box.

Jackson stepped up and fired the free kick home. The score was now one all and the result in the balance.

Crookwell continued to push forward again with John, Jacko, Mick, Scott and Sam all having the better of their opponents. A scramble in the Workers penalty box led to a Workers hand ball and Mick put the penalty away to with less than five minutes to go.

Workers pushed hard and had a couple of corners and a free kickers that they could not put away.

In the dying minute of the game Simon Bill injured his hamstring, but it was too late for Workers to take advantage. The final score was 1-2 Crookwell’s way. Best players on the day were Jackson, Addo, John, Justin Powell and Mick Powell.
