THE best of winter weather conditions welcomed 48 golfers last Saturday who took part in an Irish Fourball competition, very well sponsored by Steve Keough, John Roberts and Steve Shepherd.
The players, while welcoming the fine weather, were still faced with a course playing very long, with the dams being full and some of the fairways still having surface water.
The comfortable winners on the day were the trio of Troy Bensley, Andrew Galland and Larry Kearney.
Troy led his team well to their total of 86 points, in the process picking up a spectacular eagle on the 12th hole and winning the Guzzlers Mug with his individual score of 41 points.
Runners-up with 81 points was the team of Trevor Kemp, Ray Kearney and Ken Croker while third place went to Tim O’Keefe, Ken O’Brien and Trevor O’Brien, who were a point behind second.
It was good to see Trevor back on the course and hitting the ball consistently.
David Scott hit a great shot to the par 3, 4th/13th hole, to end up nearest-the-pin, only 1.20 metres from the flag.
D. Hislop hit a good shot to the 7th/16th hole to find himself only 1.90 metres away.
A big thanks once again goes to Steve Keough, John Roberts and Steve Shepherd for their generous sponsorship.
This Saturday will see a Single Stroke event, with the Monthly Medal at stake, as well as being the first round of the Spring Trophy (played over the first two Saturdays of the month). Sponsorship will come from Ray O’Brien so good prizes can be anticipated.
The Club had a very successful Quiz Night last Saturday with a very good crowd enjoying the questions and the good humour.
Chris Croker kept a firm control over the proceedings although he did have cause to issue the occasional fine for aberrant behaviour.
