A SURPRISINGLY good field of 37 golfers turned up last Saturday to compete in what can only be described as less than perfect conditions.
The event was a Single Stableford, sponsored by Ed Abbey and Peter Haynes, and, as usual with their sponsorship, there were no grades with prizes going to the best seven scores on the day.
The sleet and rain pretty well guaranteed that scores would not be high and this was definitely the case with no one breaking their handicap.
The best score on the day went to Club President, Ashley Gilbert, with a good score of 36 points. He edged out Larry Kearney on a countback, with both playing to their handicap. Shane Ellem continued his recent run of good form to finish third with a solid 35 points.
He beat the next four golfers by a point, with their order of finishing being Ken Frey, Chris Francis, Les McIntosh and Andy Nolan (all on 34 points).
The Ball Competition meant that those with 31 points or better were able to win a golf ball.
Nearest-the-pin on the 4th/13th hole was Bernie Broderick with his shot finishing 7.98 metres from the pin while Ray Kearney was a little closer on the 7th/16th hole (2.2 metres).
A big thanks goes out to Ed and Peter for their great sponsorship of the day.
This Saturday will see the popular Irish Fourball, with teams of three competing for prizes sposored by Steve Shepherd, John Roberts and Steve Keough.
This is always an enjoyable day.
Players only have to turn up at the Club to get into a team or they can form a team of their own.
The Sports/Trivia Quiz night is on this Saturday and there is still room for one or two teams at the time of writing. It should be a great night with a maximum of 6 per team and a 7.00pm for 7.30 start.
Members are reminded that there is a questionnaire available to allow members to provide input on the direction of the Club. It is an opportunity for all to have their say and help in formation of Club policy.
A reminder that the Club is open on Friday night for the non-profit raffles and the Members Draw.
