Dogs couldn’t tame Chooks

12 Aug, 2010 10:21 AM
THE Crookwell Dogs went down to the competition leaders, the Bungendore Mudchooks, 28 points to 12 on

Saturday, leaving them in a must win situation this coming weekend.

Seven minutes into the game, Bungendore put the first points on the board with a converted try.

But Crookwell quickly responded with a spectacular try from Ryan Seaman only three minutes later.

The conversion attempt was unsuccessful by Andrew Nolan and Bungendore led 7-5.

Bungendore answered with a soft try shortly afterwards stretching their lead to 14-5.

This margin could have easily blown out to more if it was not for an enormous try saving tackle by young winger

Nick Prell.

The Dogs lifted their game about three quarters into the first half and started playing some good football in attack.

But the uniform side of Bungendore, time and time again, broke through with some fast, structured moves and they went into Dog’s territory once more. The conversion was good and the Mudchooks took a 21-5 lead.

Finally the Dogs broke through the Chook’s defence with Sam Hall’s direct running paying dividends as he made his way over the opposition’s line. Nolan found the uprights and the score looked a more respectful 21-12.

At this point big prop James McCormack thumped onto the ground, thrashing his way through the defence and lifting the rest of the Crookwell boys’ spirits at the same time.

The performance from the Crookwell troops looked better at the start of the second half and they were unlucky on a number of occasions not to go into the Chook’s terrain.

Dropped balls and nowhere passes cost the Crookwell team valuable chances at securing the points.

After 20 minutes into the second half Bungendore scored out wide and with a successful conversion took a 28-

12 lead.

At what could have been a turning point in the game, Crookwell secured a penalty after the Mudchooks were caught offside.

The Dogs staged and won an impressive lineout and continued to apply the pressure, looking for certain they were going over the line. But costly mistakes, as small as they were, let Crookwell down.

Moments of greatness were there and some big runs were made, but a lack of support made it hard for Crookwell to capitalize on them.

With just the one try in the second half, it was obvious the game had evened up in the last 40 minutes, but alas, the Dogs were unlucky in football on Saturday.

POINTS: 3 - Toby Wilson, 2 - Sam Hall, 1 - Ryan Seaman. Players Player - Sam Hall
