In response to June 28, 2012 article, “Businesses now favour Street Festival” – it is now apparent to all business owners and others also in favour of the main street festival that Council, as outlined in the article, does not support that particular event.
That said – could there be a compromise? * 2012 – the year of the Olympic Games * Crookwell has a long history of sporting achievements. * Crookwell has two athletes competing in the 2012 Games in London and that surely needs to be recognised and celebrated by, at least, a sports theme parade of local Past, Present and Budding (school) sports individuals and teams, State and Australian representatives along with the pipe marching band, Vietnam Vets, etc.
The main street need only be closed for an hour or two – with the Council area remaining unaffected. Visitors attending the Potato Festival would no doubt wander down from the Market area (park, oval) to observe the parade and subsequently the business end of town with its cafes and unique shops.
If implemented with Council approval it could just be a Win-Win for all!
