Crookwell Junior Rugby League is now recruiting players in anticipation of another great year.
There is a great emphasis on camaraderie, mateship, professionalism and self evolvement in a career of league.
It starts from the little ones who are taught ball handling skills and the rules of the game from a young age, through to the adults who represent our town in their chosen sport at a professional level.
The players are coached and encouraged to play a good skilled game and this in-turn will develop knowledge, respect and friendship for the rest of their lives.
The age groups at present are under 11s, 12s, 15s and 16s who play in the Canberra comp.
Under 7s, 8s and 9s who play in the Goulburn comp on Saturday evenings and the under 18s and the first grade sides this year will play in the George Tooke Shield competition.
Crookwell has had many representative players developed to play with the Canberra Raiders.
At present the club has Jayden Eddie and Charlie Reardon representing in the Raiders Harold Mathews under 16s squad.
The under 18s Raiders SG Ball development squad has James Anderson and Stevie Cummins.
This year Lachlan Croker is playing in the Raiders under 18s SG Ball comp.
Let’s keep an eye on this emerging team of great players. Lachlan plays alongside some very talented players - up and coming Raiders of the future.
The under 16s Raiders development squad includes Izach Gibbs, Luke Burton and Jack Penne’.
Michael Picker formerly a Raiders hall-back and the new proprietor of Crookwell Sports and Toys is giving the junior club a helping hand as he has many years experience with the club being a Crookwell junior himself, alongside his brothers Joe and Ben.
The picker family has supported Crookwell League for many years prior to playing representative level at the Goulburn Bulldogs and the Canberra Raiders.
Michael is the 2014 first grade coach for the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs.
At the moment the Crookwell club is fully focused on their emerging players and is encouraging as many children as possible to come along to the Memorial Oval to sign up to play League.
Training has commenced and is every Thursday and Friday afternoon at the Oval.
Girls and boys of all ages are welcome to attend a training session and become a part of a great sporting club – Junior League.
