A total clearance of 2245 cattle sold with the market trend generally dearer across the offering, with stock from local and surrounding districts considered to be on the improve after the tough pre-season.
While the cows with calves topped the sale overall at $1040, it was a pen of Angus steers which made the top price for weaner calves at $745.
In the sale breakdown, weaner steers sold to $745 for an average of $523; weaner heifers sold to $620 and an average of $367.
The offering of cows sold to $850 and an average of $543, while the cows and calves sold to a high of $1040, but mainly in the $800 range, with the plainer end about $350.
The sale attracted primarily repeat buyers with the majority of stock staying in the district with local buyers snapping up the quality offering.
Principal livestock agent from MD and JJ Anderson, Crookwell, Mr Greg Anderson, said he thought the sale was on par with what the earlier harsh season had delivered the stock.
"It was pretty good, satisfactory is probably a good word to describe the sale," he said.
"The preceding season knocked a bit of weight of the calves, so considering that, I think the prices were fair.
"Some of the lighter end calves still made $2.20 to $2.30 a kilo."
Prices were up by $200 in comparison to last month's sale and $100 up on last year's offering.
Jock Duncombe of Duncombe and Co, Crookwell, also said it was a fair sale considering conditions beforehand.
"We had short spring and long summer, but the cattle responded accordingly to the recent rain," said Mr Duncombe.
"The quality presented was a credit to the vendors."
The top pen of weaner steers was sold by Bob and Barbara Brown, 'Barodoky', Tarago, who sold a pen of 38 Angus steers for $745.
They also sold a second pen of 33 steers for $615.
"We were very happy with this year's prices," said Mr Brown.
"We anticipated the prices would be up, and they were.
"It has been a real turn-around to what it was a month ago when prices were not so good for vendors."
Hanworth Station, Taralga, fetched $720 for 26 Angus steers while Petcalinda 'Coghill' Pty Ltd, via Braidwood, made $710 for their 18 Angus steers.
The top pen of heifers was sold by RH Temple, 'Fernleigh', Neriga who sold a pen of Hereford heifers for $620.
The top pen of nine Angus cows with calves at foot was sold by Shane and Gwenda Romer, 'Sunsbury', Crookwell for $1040, while Kadwell and Company, Crookwell, sold Angus cows and calves to a top of $1020.
Some other top quotes on the day were SK and AH Clark, Richmond Pastoral Co., Laggan, sold 30 Angus steers for $650, Paul and Helen Corby, Grabben Gullen, sold nine Angus steers fetching $605, and WL Rabjohns and Son, Taralga, sold a pen of Angus heifers for $520.
