Coach Brad Scott said the Roos will have a ‘‘team approach’’ – and more – to combat any tactics Crowley might have in store for Harvey during Friday night’s clash at Patersons Stadium.

Former North star David King is one of several commentators who believe the Roos should isolate Crowley and Harvey deep inside 50, should Dockers coach Ross Lyon elect to reprise the tagging role that worked so effectively in the round-13 win last year.

While Scott did not reveal details, the coach said there was a plan in place for Crowley, the Dockers’ 2012 best and fairest winner, who has several scalps to his name already this year.

‘‘There will be a team approach, there will be a specific role for Boomer, if and when that happens,’’ Scott said on Thursday.

‘‘I think forewarned is forearmed. We expect it to happen, and we’ve just got to make sure we hold up our end of the bargain.’’

Scott insisted he had respect for Crowley, despite the shutdown specialist being fined for ‘‘pinching’’ Harvey after an AFL investigation into his conduct – a charge Crowley denied and challenged, unsuccessfully.

Speaking on Thursday, Scott said the club would not waste time this week lobbying umpires, publicly or privately. ‘‘What they [the umpires] do is up to them, we’ve just got to make sure we are doing everything in our power to control the situation,’’ he said.

A clearly frustrated Harvey was harassed by Crowley all day for 11disposals and a goal, and the Roos champion gave away a 50-metre penalty that resulted in a Dockers goal.

Harvey and Crowley had a heated conversation after the match, and when asked later to give evidence about Crowley’s tactics during the match, Harvey told a tribunal hearing he had been pinched ‘‘about 300 times’’.

Winning the potential Harvey-Crowley match-up could be key in the Roos’ mission to celebrate Drew Petrie’s 250th game with the club’s first win at Patersons Stadium since 2010.

The lead-up discussion to Petrie’s milestone match has centred on the key forward, by his own admission, so far this year ‘‘battling’’ to reach the high standards he has set in his career.

Coming off 48 goals in 2013, Petrie has managed just three in five games this year and his average disposals, 9.2, have hit his lowest point since 2002.

Petrie admitted certain criticism levelled at him during the past few weeks – even calls for him to consider retirement – had made the 31-year-old ‘‘angry’’.

‘‘I don’t watch the footy shows because obviously there are far too many old players trying to keep a job in footy, making rash comments ... I listen to those people I respect,’’ the Roos vice-captain told the AFL website.

‘‘Part of the reason I guess I’m not going great, it’s my own fault. I’m just not working hard enough, or not marking the footy cleanly enough, and I’m not giving our midfielders a good enough option inside the forward 50.’’

The Roos hope the injection of exciting big man Majak Daw for his first game for the season will not only provide the X-factor in a forward line lacking punch, but also free-up Petrie to play a different role.
