A 106-hectare site that was home to the former Mayday Hills Lunatic Asylum has hit the market. The Beechworth site comprises buildings that until 2011 operated as the La Trobe at Beechworth Convention Centre. The buildings include a conference centre with a 20-room motel, restaurant and meeting rooms; a three-level building used for accommodation; and nine smaller accommodation properties. The site also includes two buildings used as classrooms for a Montessori school, a theatre that is the starting point for ghost tours, a catering centre, offices, cricket pavilion and oval, childcare centre, kindergarten, gardening sheds, boiler rooms, maintenance buildings, chapel and storage sheds. The site is being marketed by Scott Callow of CBRE Hotels and Dean Lupson of LJ Hooker Beechworth, on behalf of La Trobe University. The expressions of interest campaign will close on October 5 at 4pm.
