The new bridge replaces the ancient one-lane wooden truss bridge, which will now be demolished.
Although opened to traffic, work is still going on.
The Roads and Maritime Services has advised that this work will apply between 7.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Demolition of the old bridge is expected to take three months, weather permitting.
Work may require occasional closure of one lane of the new bridge, but traffic will be able to pass under controlled conditions.
Motorists are urged to use caution when travelling through the work site.
The new bridge is a key part of opening the main road to Bathurst to all types of traffic.
Particularly it will assist stock carriers which have become much more numerous with the success of the regional sales at Carcoar.
The old wooden bridge at one time was under heritage listing as a fine example of wooden truss construction, but this is not now considered necessary.
