This will be the fifth year the club has held a “Call to Arms” event to raise much needed funds for cancer research, with $48,950.00 raised so far
For this year’s events, each team will wear a specially designed jersey for their match at Cookbundoon Sporting Fields, with the highlight match the Premier League Men taking on Marulan at 3pm.
Stags asked its junior players to come up with a shirt design to be voted on by all the players, with the winning design to be the shirt every player would wear.
The club was swamped with entries and the final field was shortlisted to six designs by Lachlan Dowling, Bailey Marshall, Rohan Fleming, Joshua Arnold, Ryan and Jett Edwards & Lachlan Norris.
Votes were tallied in secret and the winning entry, which was unveiled on Thursday, was the “Camo” design submitted by Rohan Fleming.
This year’s event sees a full round of soccer played at Cookbundoon Sporting complex, with every Stags team from Under 6 through to All Age wearing one specially designed shirts to raise awareness.
The feature games played on field 2 are;
Under 13s - Stags Blue v MBK United – 9pm
These two teams traditionally play for the Chisholm Cup and once again an entertaining and competitive match is expected. Look for Julian Coppolino to feature heavily in the Stags Blue midfield.
Under 13s – Stags Sky v Wollondilly Soldiers – 10:30am
The two form teams of the under 13 championship face off looking for momentum into the finals. Stags Blue Goal Keeper Seb Clissold is in good form and will hard to score against on the day.
All Age Women – Stags Pink v Stags Blue – 12pm
Club mate versus club mate but look for no quarter given from any of the ladies. Jassmyne Scott returns for the pink side eager to score while for the blue Fran Gooch will be looking to stop her!
All Age Men GWC Championship – AC Stags v Wollondilly Soldiers – 1pm
AC look to bounce back into form against a rejuvenated Wollondilly Soldiers side. Midfield maestro Derrick “35” Jones will look to direct the AC boys around the park. Kyle Hogan stands as the danger man for Wollondilly Soldiers as his long, long range shooting prowess may come to the fore. These two teams play for the “Call to Arms” cup every year.
All Age Men Highlands Premier League – Stags FC v Marulan – 3pm
The feature match of the day shall not disappoint. Long-time rivals going head to head for bragging rights. While season fortunes may differ greatly, both teams will be desperate to walk away with the win. Stags FC Head Coach David Jones will be determined to see his side take all 3 points while Marulan stalwart Daniel Cooper will be sure to have his side ready for the fight.
After a big day of soccer the Club will be holding a charity auction at the Goulburn Workers Club from 7pm, with finger food and musical entertainment provided. Tickets are $25.00 and everyone is welcome.
