Learning to ski at forty six at the insistence of two sisters who were keen skiers, Margaret (and husband Brian) found that what looked easy from the sidelines was more difficult than it seemed.
The slightest slope suddenly became a daunting prospect. Not only was going down safely a struggle in those early days, but getting up the slope was also the source of considerable worry. Large bruises were unavoidable.
Eventually the skills of stopping and turning were mastered and despite those early frequent falls, skiing has offered Margaret the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of a range of snow covered landscapes.
Now a more confident and capable skier, Margaret spoke of the opportunities skiing has offered her to enjoy other cultures and landscapes. Stunning scenery and meeting friendly people have been unexpected benefits. Not the least of it all has been the quiet joy in eventually being able to navigate steeper and more challenging terrain.
