Crookwell’s all age women’s soccer team have qualified for their second grand final of the year and will hope to add to their Association Cup win with a victory over Moss Vale White in this year’s grand final to be held at Bowral this coming Saturday
Last weekend they scored a relatively comfortable 3-0 victory over Mittagong to secure there spot. Under the guidance of Alison and Rohan for the day [regular coach went MIA] the girls found the back of the net twice in the first half through goals to Gemma O’Brien and Olivia Medway. The second half was a much tighter affair with only the one goal scored; this time Annie Croker found the back of the net to seal Crookwell’s victory.
This year has been a tough yet rewarding year for this young team, eight players under 16, three between 16 and 20 and only four over 20 years of age playing in an open all age competition, there constant and steady improvement throughout the year has been evident in the last few weeks, their passing game proving enjoyable to watch.
So Good Luck on Saturday [May the force be with you young skywalkers]
Emily Selmes – Goalkeeper, As hard as nails, won’t take a backward step [like her mentor the rock]
Maddison Chalker – tough as teak fullback, who’ll do whatever is necessary for the team, hates losing
Demi Picker – fullback, a great team player who loves her pets, as fit as her coach & lasts on the paddock as long
Grace Smith – sweeper, having another great year, rarely beaten and shows no fear in tackles, the glue that keeps the defence together
Gemma O’Brien- centre back, having an outstanding year, has really grown in confidence and loves to hear her coach yelling GEMMA
Lily Panne – First year, left back/wing, very quiet but packs quite a punch on the field, having a great first year
Amber George- midfield, has a huge heart and great work ethic always ready to offer advice, keeps the midfield ticking
Hannah Perry- midfield, keeps things composed, never seems to get flustered, at 22 the most experienced member of the team
Annie Croker – Mid/Forward, our versatile pocket dynamo, speed to burn and can score from anywhere, a real handful for defenders
Giselle Croker – left/right wing/ forward – quick, and loves running down the wing taking on defenders, has a unique ability to score when it’s not expected
Laura O’Keefe- wing/forward, has scored some of our best goals this year, always bobs up in the right place at the right time, will run all day.
Olivia Medway – Everywhere, fortunately or unfortunately depends how you look at it, she is miss versatile, used from the backs to the forwards, can score em and stop em
Lizzie O’Keefe – Forward, having a very consistent year playing an unfamiliar role, needs a little persuasive encouragement at times to RUN, leading the team well
Renae Quinn – back/mid – newcomer having her first year, started to find her feet and rhythm for the game but work commitments cut into her game time
Hayley Willis – fullback, another newcomer and would be pleased to know the old girl of the team, loves a good time and a drink but works her butt off when on the field
Alison Croker- Manager, the old girl who keeps things running like a well-oiled machine, has everyone and everything ready on game day.
