The day bullied off with the Primary Division Kids (consisting of six teams) taking the field to show us just why Crookwell is still on the map for producing some of the finest Hockey players in the world!! Plenty of sportsmanship accompanied the talent with all involved enjoying the chance to play with and against some new faces.
The two teams finishing on top of the ladder were “Weekend Warriors” and “Chicks with Sticks and a Couple of Mates”.
After a hard fought battle in the Grand Final, Weekend Warriors walked away with the prize. Well done to both teams and all that participated on the day!
“What a colourful fun day” was the feedback and the general consensus for the Opens Division!! With some of the uniforms providing a trip down memory lane for some!!
Wheeo took the field sporting sponsorship from The Royal Hotel and the Crookwell Crunchies arrived looking glam with matching head wear and a hockey stick older than the combined age of the team!!
All teams started the day with no interest at all in the scoreboard but in typical Crookwell style once the day continued things got a little more serious.
After six games of “skilled” hockey, four teams were left at the top (of the ladder not the Pub!!!) with first place on the ladder going to Cooleys Cats who took on fourth place Mak-Bats in one Final and Devils took on Taralga in the other.
To the surprise of everyone Mak-Bats won their final and headed into the Grand final to meet a fighting fit Devils who had just come away with a win in extra time over a strong Taralga team.
Mak-Bats came out overall winners and are now in Devils sights for the match up in 2015. Congratulations Mak Bats!! Special thanks to the Goulburn and other teams who travelled to Crookwell to support our day!!!
Now you know why we are so good a trapping balls, it’s all a bit bouncier off the turf but great fun!!
Crookwell Hockey will be running another 7 a-side carnival again on the weekend of March 28 and 29, 2015, so get the sticks out of the shed and start training so the town does not have a shortage of Radox like it did on Sunday.
Well done Crookwell!!!!
All the committee hope that the day was enjoyed by all and encourage the new faces to jump into hockey next season.
