Crookwell's under14s cricket side notched up their first win for the season on Saturday October 18 against
Wollondilly at Seiffert Oval last Saturday morning.
Wollondilly won the toss sending our boys into bat. In a low scoring match Crookwell was lucky to come away with the win after a loss of early wickets.
Hamish Hammond was a stand out with 50 not out and was well backed up by Jacob McGregor with 17, Brad Smith ending with 11 and Sam Cramp 6 not out. Crookwell ended their innings 7/99 off 25 overs. Wollondilly started off slowly thanks to great bowling by Jacob McGregor who finished with 1/11 (4 overs) and Brad Smith 0/13 (5 overs).
Wicket takers were Blake McCarten 1/6, Zac McGregor 1/7 and Jacob McGregor 1/11.
Crookwell as a whole bowled extremely tight keeping Wollondilly to 81 runs from their 25 overs, giving Crookwell a well deserved win.

Crookwell cricket back in business - you bet!
Both the Golf Club sponsored 2nd and 3rd grade sides have recorded a win and a loss in the first two rounds of the Goulburn cricket competition.
Third grade made short work of Hibo green chasing down the 93 runs required in just 13 overs to start their season with a comprehensive victory. The trip to Goulburn against Coolavin Colts was a real runfest as the home side knocked up 6/351. A pretty daunting total, but 91 to Josh Storrier and 65 by Lachlan Croker certainly did not let Coolavin have it all their own way with Crookwell showing good resistance making 227.
Second Grade probably let their first match slip away from them after doing everything right in the field and bowling Hibo Gold out for 154. Openers Ben Evans and Damien Tibbles looked quite comfortable putting on 26 for the opening partnership but fell to consecutive deliveries. Dave Aimey top scored with 24 in what turned out to be a traditional Crookwell batting collapse.
At home on Saturday was a different story. Winning the toss and batting first the openers did their job well. No massive scores but some sensible controlled batting took the score to 3/65 at drinks. Wickets in hand and partnerships is the key. Together Nicho and Corey Knight added 38, another partnership of 42 with Ben Haynes before Nicho departed for 24. Captain Benny Haynes top scored with 48 and Adam Evans on 19 not out took the final score to 7/154. A far more respectable scorecard and not a duck to be seen.
The Goulburn boys considered that quite achievable, but they haven’t played much cricket at The Grange.
Workers opener Josh Ryrie was not going to die wondering, cracking our captain for four second ball and for six the next over, and attempting the same every other ball. James Weir wasn’t having any part of this and took a wicket first ball. Benny bounced back too and the wickets continued to fall in a great opening spell. At 4/45 it was all good but that Ryrie was still there and looking dangerous. After surviving a couple of chances though he fell to a cracking catch by Matty Mills. Early days but don’t be surprised if it remains catch of the season.
That vital wicket gave Benny Haynes his third and was really the turning point. Bronson Collins picked up two wickets and Sparra got his second three wicket haul to keep the visitors under 100.
Might I mention a superb bowling effort by James Weir. It was pretty torrid at the start, and James had 1/9 off three overs. Not bad but the next three overs was 1/0. Great stuff.
Don’t forget, Crookwell is still undefeated at home and there will be a match at The Grange every week. So do yourself a favour and check it out and join us for the post mortem at the Golf Club.
Happy cricketing. Contributed.
