Tussock Tamers is a community project run through the Upper Lachlan Landcare network aimed at reducing the impact of Serrated Tussock, one of Australia’s worst environmental weeds, which is well established in the region. Now in its fifth year, Tussock Tamers has involved over 500 participants through a series of integrated weed management workshops, field days and information sessions. This year’s Tussock Tamers campaign was made possible with funding from the Australian Government biodiversity fund as part of the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative – Kanangra Boyd to Wyangala Link (K2W for short).
There were four great prizes on offer for this year’s Tussock Tamer participants donated by Paul Wyer of Fertspread, Alison Elvin of Natural Capital, Chris Houghton Agricultural and Rotor Solutions Australia.
And the lucky winners who will be receiving notification in the mail are; Fiona and Gary Johnson of Ladevale; Colleen Wright and John Stefanish of Peelwood, Joel and Julie Cordingley of Big Hill, and David and Nicki Templeton of Grabben Gullen.
Nerida Croker, Upper Lachlan Landcare chairperson took the opportunity to thank all of the sponsors and Tussock Tamers partners including Upper Lachlan Shire Council, South East Local Land Services and the main driver behind the Tussock Tamers campaigns, Mr Bob Spiller who was unable to attend the prize draw.
The morning tea provided a good opportunity to talk with local MP, Angus Taylor, about weeds and other Landcare issues and to introduce the Crookwell Green Army team who are already working on Landcare projects in the Upper Lachlan Catchment.
