The trail will be held on 6 -12 April and the marathon hopes to raise $50,00 for Legacy.
“I hope to raise at least $1000 for this cause,” said David.
There is four category distances, 450, 300, 150 and 75kms.
“I will be running the 150km distance.”
The marathon will be held at the Canberra centenary trail.
David worked at Laggan Engineering prior to leaving Crookwell at the age of 19 to join the Navy in 1975.
He served in the Navy for 23 years in uniform and 17 as a defence civilian.
His brother Allan also served in the Navy for 38 years as a Physical Training Instructor, unfortunately passing away last year due to a brain tumor.
“This run is also a tribute to him.”
Allan's wife Christine and son Lea also served in the Navy and between them have a combined service history of approx 100 years.
“Although I have always had a passion for running it wasn't until retiring and leaving Cairns last year that I have been more serious”
David has completed in two ultra marathons, five marathons and three half marathons since leaving Cairns last August.
At present 64km is the longest run David has done to date “so this will be a real challenge.”
David runs with a backpack approx 4kgs in weight.
In the backpack he carries a fleecy jumper, light rain jacket, a head lamp, bandages, water and energy drinks plus energy bars for along the way
You may have noticed David running around local roads in preparation with shorter runs around the area on the Binda, Boorowa and Grabben Gullen roads.
This area has been a good way to train as hill running is incorporated.
We wish David all the very best.
