For as long as there have been female celebrities, there have been entertainment journalists determined to find out what they carry around in their purses.
However, when Elle Macpherson was faced with the time-honoured "What's the most surprising thing in your handbag?" during a recent Q&A with the Evening Standard, her response was, well, surprising.
The most unexpected item in her handbag wasn't a flamboyantly coloured lipstick, a Swiss army knife, or a left-of-centre brand of hand cream. In fact, the most surprising thing inside the Australian model's handbag was . . .
A urine tester kit.
The 51-year-old revealed that she always carries a pH balance urine tester kit around with her to "check that [she's] in an alkaline state".
"I believe that most ailments come from having an acidic body," she said.
It was one of many wellbeing-inspired answers from the Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model host, who started her own health supplements company, WelleCo, last year.
The company will launch its Super Elixir Nourishing Protein – a supplement which Macpherson describes as "a vegan protein powder and meal supplement for busy people" – this month.
Macpherson revealed her key to healthy eating was "consistency and eating three healthy meals a day".
"Having said that, red meat, wheat and dairy don't work for me," she added.
The mother-of-two is a follower of the alkaline diet; a diet program that advocates an 80/20 ratio of alkaline to acidic foods.
Other key takeaways from the interview include that Macpherson works out 45 minutes a day, six days a week, and that her guilty pleasures include digestive biscuits and Marmite.
Macpherson's comments about her strict wellbeing routine have been criticised on social media, with one Twitter user sarcastically calling her "a barrel of laughs".
