This involved the use of powered boats on Pejar Dam.

Council has a policy that restricts the use of power boats on Pejar Dam, however, for this specific training the SES was granted permission to use their power boats on dam during the weekend due to the community benefit in having our emergency services trained for flood response situations.  

These situations arise frequently in Goulburn making this training worthwhile for flood affected areas in and around Crookwell and Goulburn

The exercise run over a full weekend.

“This was a great initiative to assist in training our volunteer services to better support our local community.” Mr Orchard commented.

“It was well worth the cold and pain knowing now we can better serve our community safely.”

Crookwell unit currently has five volunteers training for the boat unit.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to act as a member of a flood boat crew on inland waterways, including during times of floods.

This was the first weekend of hands on team work putting into action.

The crew has attended four days of classroom work as well as passing the Maritime Boating test.

In the next session the crew will be training and skills tested on flowing water (rivers) to simulate flood water and simulate real flood rescues.
