“Over the past year our group has been active in continuing with the enhancement of Kiamma Creek” the President of the group Barry Murphy explained at the recent Annual General Meeting.
The five main ideas for the 2014-15 year have been completed and the future plans are on track for the current year.
The group have had several working bees and tasks performed that have included relocating the Platypus seat to now overlook the pond.
A member of the public has donated camellias for a hedge behind one of the public seats which once established will create a screen and quiet area.
The group have planted more trees and the gravel walkway from the footbridge to Laggan Road will be completed in this year’s works.
The main idea was a sensory garden which has been commenced by Dr Ross Higginson. Parents, teachers and students from the SDN Crookwell Preschool helped with this working bee. The school donated plants for the garden and attended a special planting ceremony in May this year. Members have continued with spreading mulch for weed control in the park area.
This year it is planned to replace the wooden rails and the stone steps making this part of the path a lesser gradient so that wheelchair access is made easier.
Add more plants to the sensory garden before spring.
Have three willow stumps removed.
Look into having a second wildlife seat made plus many other activities are planned for the continued enhancement of the park.
Their vision also includes a further two shelters made for visitor seating close to the electric barbecue.
The Kiamma Creek area is a beautiful place for visitors and locals to utilise and the enhancement will continue to attract many to the area.
Watch out for the platypus that has also been sighted in the creek lately by many visitors to the area.
