Devils make the semis
The Crookwell George Tooke side travelled to Addison Oval in Canberra on Saturday August 1 to take on ADFA Red.
The Devil’s side started the game well with most of the possession and field position going their way. Crookwell were first to score with a try to Danny Knight early in the half.
Knight converted and the devils led 6-0.
As the half wore on the mobile ADFA forwards started to make inroads into the Devils defence. Crookwell’s inability to win the ruck allowed ADFA to score just before the break making the halftime score 6 all.
The Devil’s side came out after half time and again looked in control.
After some good work by the Crookwell backline, Ben Cummins crossed the try line.
The try was unconverted and Crookwell lead 10-6.
The momentum of the game changed with ADFA scoring three unanswered tries in 20 minutes to lead 20-10.
The young devils fought back, but weren’t helped by some baffling refereeing decisions.
With 10 minutes to go Charlie McGeechan scored an unconverted try out wide and then with three minutes left on the clock Crookwell put up a cross field bomb.
Winger Caylon Jackson Wilkie showed great pace and out-jumped the opposition to score in the corner.
The try however was disallowed when the referee deemed someone to be in front of the kicker.
The game ended with a score line of ADFA 20, Crookwell 14.
Crookwell’s best were Nathan Storrier and James Weir in the forwards.
Mitch McGeechan had another strong game and was well supported by Paul Lewis.
The player’s player went to Nathan Storrier.
The Devils had the bye last weekend which was the last round game of the season.
This week they take on Yass in the first semi-final at a venue to be announced.
