Added to the two major contributions will be around $6,000 which has been raised, largely by the young people themselves, over the years.
The Veolia Trust grant was announced at last week’s Upper Lachlan Council meeting by General Manager Mr. John Bell.
In doing so, Mr. Bell added that he could “see no reason by the same could not eventually be done for Crookwell.”
A movement is already afoot at Crookwell to establish a skate park, with initial money raising efforts earlier this year.
The Gunning skate park will be constructed on an area of land at the showground, which is owned by Council.
A make-shift course has already been created there.
There is no time frame yet for the construction of the skate park, with the design of the course yet to be decided upon.
And until such time it will not be known whether Council will carry out the construction with its own work force or by contract.
Cr. Brian McCormack had a word of warning: that “all hell” had broken loose at Braidwood over skate park plans there.
