The fine-medium wool type group which were described by judge Stuart Rintoul of Dongiemon and Tilba Tilba studs, “Dongiemon”, Williams, Western Australia as an even, productive group of sheep, averaged a 19.4-micron fleece.
The group of two ewes and three rams, both two and four-tooth, were carefully selected by Mr Williams out of his stud sheep line-up because of their evenness in wool characteristics and true Thalabah type.
The two ewes cut 9.8 and 10.1 kilogram fleeces while the three rams, including the supreme exhibit at Taralga show weighed in at 14.7kg, 14.9kg and 14.2kg.
Four sheep including three ewes and one ram were also selected to send fleeces to the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo in July.
Mr Williams said the rams will be retained in the stud as sires as will the ewes be put back with a specially selected ram.
“They are typical of the Thalabah type – heavy cutting, high yielding, productive sheep,” he said. “Plus, I am pretty fond of them all.”
