The Flying Start program is designed to create friendships, build confidence, extend social skills and begin to develop academic skills, providing children with a successful foundation for their schooling.
Students have had a wonderful start to the program getting to know each other and their school environment. The program is available in Term 2 and 3. Please feel welcome to come along and join the fun on Monday mornings from 9:30-11:00am in the Kindergarten classroom!
Bathed in sunshine, Stage 3 students practising some ‘moves’ to ‘La La La’ by Shakira.
Students at Crookwell Public School experienced a small taste of the Footsteps Dance program recently. Footsteps use dance as a vehicle to develop students’ inter/intra personal skills and fitness levels. Students, dancing outside, enjoyed what may be the last days of autumn sunshine.
Boyd Heidrich, Ari Stephenson and Ryan Wong observe the growing cracks in the egg shell.Stage 3 have been studying the science unit “Earthquake Explorers”.
Students applied pressure to the cracked shell on a hard-boiled egg to better understand the effects of earthquakes on the Earth’s surface. They discussed how the yolk, white and shell of the egg can represent the layers of the Earth.

Students were able to buy their mum a lovely gift this Mother’s Day at school. The stall was organised by a wonderful group of parent helpers who ensured every mum received something special for Mother’s Day. We hope you all had a fantastic day!
Some of the excited participants who are taking part in the 2016 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Have fun reading everyone!Participation in the Premier’s Reading Challenge has become one of the highlights of the past few years at Crookwell Public School and this year is proving to be no exception. Students across all classes, K-6 have once again signed up to participate in the 2016 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. This reading challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for both leisure and pleasure, in all students, regardless of reading ability. The availability of new books in the library enables them to experience and access a wide range of quality children’s literature, both in their classrooms and in their homes.
“It is a challenge for each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.”
Congratulations to all students who have signed up again this year to read, read and read!
Pictured on the amazing stairs leading up to the school library are students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 with their favourite books.
The stairs leading to the library and Year 6 room have recently had an amazing transformation from dull and grey to bright and wonderful. As the stairs lead to our library we thought it would be a great idea to turn the stair risers into spines of some of our favourite books. There are classics like The Wind in the Willows and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and some more recent favourites like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Harry Potter. It has totally changed the look and the feel of the area thanks to the wonderful artistic skills of Cullen Ball, Lachlan and Cooper Tetley’s uncle. The challenge now is to see who can read all the titles painted on the stairs, how many have you read?
Brianna Roberts at the Pyramids of Giza, Riley Osborne admiring Sydney’s fireworks show, Marlee Seaman taking an underwater selfie and Zeth Young in London are just a few of the exciting places Year 4 took themselves with Adobe Photoshop.
While Year 3 were doing their NAPLAN assessments, Year 4 were going around the world taking amazing photos! By using the power of Adobe Photoshop the Year 4 students manipulated photos and placed their image on a different background of their choice, creating the impression that they were actually there! Students have photographic evidence of themselves visiting New York, Paris, Hawaii and even erupting volcanoes!
Haka Hape, Lily Hattam, Mia Butler, Ada Dunn and Lincoln Kearney found the new stone wall to be a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy a good book.
You may have noticed while driving along the Colyer St end of school recently that Graham McCarten has been very busy constructing a new entry and stone wall. This new entry has been constructed to match the entries on the Denison St side of the school. The new entry and wall is part of our exterior beautification plan to improve the look and feel of the grounds to enhance learning and a sense of wellbeing. The wall is perfect for mums and dads to sit on and chat in the sun while waiting for their children to finish school for the day and is also a great place to relax and read your favourite book as some of our Kindergarten students found out this week. Thank you to Graham for his amazing stone masonry skills.
