Year 5 students – Angus Smith is researching the Big Bang theory. Harriet Lowe is writing about fashion in the early 1600’s. Joshua Evans is investigating World War 1.
Year 6 students – Amelia Croker, Holly Chapman, Charlie Hayes and Ella Duncombe are registered in the Choose Maths 2016 competition. The theme of which is “Maths is more than just numbers”. They are in the process of creating a video on the Fibonacci Sequence.
On Friday May 6, Year Four at St. Mary’s, presented an assembly all about Indigenous Australia, encompassing both traditional and modern day culture.
The assembly began with the ‘Acknowledgment of Country’ led by our Indigenous students Tiarna and Taleisha, from the Wiradjuri tribe, and Hayley and Courtney, from the Biripi tribe.
After that the class performed a moving opening song, using clap sticks, entitled ‘True Blue Wonders’ by Beat Boppers.
As the assembly progressed the students shared information about traditional indigenous instruments, the dreamtime, both traditional and modern indigenous art, music and dancing.
The children enjoyed sharing dreamtime story book reviews, modern style Sally Morgan inspired art works, a poem entitled, ‘Red, Black and Yellow’ and dances to Christine Anu’s ‘My Island Home’, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu’s ‘Gurrumal History’ and Jessica Mauboy’s ‘To the End of the Earth’.
Year Four delighted in presenting their learning to the school community and many visitors.
