How Many Cups? Kade Fowler and his friends deposit many cups of water into the bucket. Kindergarten is exploring capacity and volume through water play in mathematics. Students are finding how many cups of water are needed to fill different sized containers including a kettle, milk bottle and bucket.
Chess Club: Crookwell Public School chess team members are vigorously honing their strategic thinking skills as they prepare for an upcoming chess tournament. Science: Alex Anderson carefully holds the blue tongue lizard to closely examine it.Students across Stage 1 have been examining living things and their environments this term in science. Students have the opportunity to examine various animals and look at attributes that make each animal unique to its species and to its habitat. This blue tongue lizard visited the class and helped teach the characteristics that make it special. Did you know that a blue tongue lizard can have up to 25 live young at once?
Reciprocal Teaching: Students in Stage 1 are participating in reciprocal teaching. Learning takes place in small groups where students learn to predict, clarify, question and summarise text. Reciprocal teaching has increased students’ reading and comprehension skills and students have enjoyed the co-operative process.Tyler Smith, Sianabel Anderson, Billy Speer and Joshua Churchill practise the reciprocal teaching strategies.
Peer Support: Seth Ross and Maddy Wray working together to list the qualities their friends display. Our Year 6 leaders have commenced Peer Support groups for the year. The focus of these sessions is developing and maintaining friendships. Students from Kindergarten to Year 5 are placed in groups with two Year 6 leaders. All students participate in weekly games and activities within their groups. Peer Support groups are great for students who need some social assistance and for Year 6 to build leadership qualities.
Science in 3/4H: This term in science, students in 3/4H have been exploring what is beneath the surface of the world. Students have been busily studying soil and rock samples from around the district and asking the question, how far beneath the surface has it come from? Eli Stewart and Claire Collins discover the properties of basalt soil.
Gymnastics: Rhianna King practising her star jumps on the mini trampoline.During this term Crookwell Public School students have had the pleasure of attending gymnastics sessions. These sessions are led by gymnastics instructor Vaughn Edmonds, they aim to improve students’ flexibility, fitness and strength.
Games from the Past: Girls in Stage 1 patiently try their hand at ‘pick-up sticks. Students in Stage 1 have enjoyed learning about the past. We have recently had a “Games from the Past Afternoon”. Students participated in quoits, hoola hoops, marbles, skipping, pick up sticks, elastics and hopscotch. Students enjoyed reliving these games and recognised how these games are similar to what we play today.
