Crookwell’s GTS team travelled to Boorowa on Saturday to play the Rovers. The Devils had a new look side with eight regular players out due to injury and work commitments.
The Devils started the game well and after three minutes the Devils fielding a Boorowa clearing kick on their own 20 meter line.
Josh Kleinig showed some quick hands to put winger Josh Hunter away down the sideline for an 80 meter try.
Danny Knight made no mistake with the conversion from under the posts and the Devils led 6-0.
From the restart the Devils didn't complete their set and for the next 15 minutes the Devil’s side never made it out of their own half.
Josh Hunter was again the man to get the Devils out of trouble and in the 18th minute he scored another try down the left wing.
Knighty again converted to take the score to 12-0.
The Crookwell side got their kicking game in order and pinned the Rovers side in their own quarter for the next five minutes.
The pressure eventually cracked the Rover defence and captain Jamie Boothman crossed for a try.
The kick was wide and the score moved to 16-0.
Crookwell continued to apply pressure to the Boorowa side with their kicking game.
Four minutes out from the break new recruit Dylan Adams showed his great pace to score his first try in the Devil’s colours.
The kick was unsuccessful and the Devils had a handy 20-0 lead.
The Boorowa side were going away though and right in the stroke of half time they crossed out wide for an unconverted try to take the half time score to 20-4.
The second half started similar to the first with Josh Hunter streaking down the left wing to score another long range try in the 5th minute.
Knighty converted the kick from out front to take the score to 26-4.
Boorowa Rovers lifted their game after the try and for the next 20 minutes they dominated the Crookwell side with punishing defence.
Their efforts in defence payed dividends and the Rovers crossed twice in the 24th minute and 29th minute.
Both tries were converted and the Devils looked shaky at 26-16 with six minutes to go.
The Crookwell side realised they had a game in their hands and lifted.
Then with two minutes on the clock Danny Knight capped off a fine game to score a converted try to take the final score to 32-16 in favour to the Devils.
Crookwell played well for most of the game considering they were without some key players.
Josh Hunter was the pick of the backline scoring a hat trick, he was well supported by Danny Knight who played good in the five eighth position. Dylan Adams showed some good signs before being forced from the field with a rib injury.
In the forwards Jack Dawson defending strongly and he was well supported by Kayne Davis and Nathan Storrier.
Try scorers for the Devils were Josh Hunter with three tries, one try each to Dylan Adams, Jamie Boothman and Danny Knight.
Danny kicked four goals.
The GTS Devils travel to Canberra next Sunday to play the high flying North Canberra Bears at Kaleen - kick off at 2pm
The ladies League Tag team also travel to Canberra on Sunday to play Boomanulla at Kaleen, kick off at 1.30pm.
Youth League play on Saturday July 16 against Harden YL at Harden.
