Crookwell Pups U12’s v Braidwood Redbacks
The Crookwell Pups played against the Braidwood Redbacks on Friday night. The game was played in terrible conditions with wild weather including rain, gail force winds and lightning. The first half was very even, however the Redbacks were first to score to take the lead 5-0. The Pups hit back through a try to Jack Searl with great speed and footwork to score near the posts. Josh Evans converted with a great drop kick conversion into the breeze. The scrums were being fiercely fought, with good efforts from Jay Cunningham and Emma Page in the engine room. Lachlan Vallender made a good long run with the ball and James Seaman made a number of incisive runs and also produced a copybook covering tackle to save a try. The scores remained Pups 7-5 leaders at half time.
Crookwell were first to score in the second half through a powerful Tyson Allwright try, the Pups held a lead of 12-5. The second half was played mostly in our own 22 metre line due to ill discipline and countless scrum resets. The Pups defended their hearts out, with last gasp defence on our try line, Tyson Allwright, Josh Evans, Sam Minehan and Angus Smith defence were a real highlight to save many attacking raids of the Redbacks.
Right on full time a penalty to the Redbacks allowed them to score a late try under the posts this levelled the scores at 12-12. This remained the final score.
Cody Stewart played his best game of the season making line breaks down the wing. Matthew Seaman was a little terrier at break away hounding the opposition and tackling well, Kyle and Logan Croke tried hard at the breakdown, Joshua Thorn played strongly in the forwards and was strong in the scrums. A special mention to Boyd Heidrich, who played well in the second row, in his first game in the Pups colours.
The final score was a 12-12 draw which was a fair indication of the closeness of the contest. Man of the Match was Charlie Hayes who made a massive 60 metre run, did strong hit ups and numerous tackles.
Well played Pups, top quality rugby in terrible conditions.
