Crookwell’s women’s reserve grade football side was named as the first winner of the cup after securing a 2-0 victory in the final against Mittagong at David Wood Playing Fields.
2016 marked the first time Highlands Soccer Association (HSA) teams played for the Chris Jacobs Cup.
The cup was named in honour of the late Chris Jacobs, a stalwart of football in the Southern Highlands.
Mittagong coach Thomas Goodman said Crookwell deserved credit for winning the title.
“Congratulations Crookwell, you are always a great team to play against,” he said.
“Our girls played so well today and I’m really happy with their performance.”
Goodman said he hoped Mittagong and Crookwell would meet in the HSA’s regular competition grand final later this year.
“Crookwell, if we don’t see you in the grand final then we have failed,” he said.
Crookwell coach Mick Boulton said it was a tough win by his side.
“The girls played alright,” he said.
“Mittagong is always very hard to play because they are so good defensively.”
Boulton said he hoped Crookwell would taste more success in 2016.
“But we not getting too far ahead of ourselves,” he said.
