The worsening condition of the unsealed roads in the Shire, particularly in the eastern areas, again came up for discussion at last week’s Upper Lachlan Council meeting.

Cr. Brian McCormack weighed in with: “I have been complaining about the condition of the roads in the eastern part of the Shire for the past four months, but nothing has happened.
“Perhaps we could hire an extra grader to work on some of these roads.”
Director of Works Mr. Phil Newham asked for “tolerance” for another two of three weeks, in which time, he said, they would see “a huge difference.”
Graders were in the area at the present.
He added that the extra work caused by the weather conditions would see the gravel road budget “in the red.”
Mayor Mr. John Shaw added: “The whole year has been a disaster: four months with no rain, and then flooding.”
Cr. Malcolm Barlow commented that perhaps the new Council could “look at” borrowing a million dollars to catch up on the work needed.
Cr. Shaw replied that Council had already spoken to State and Federal Members about the situation.
