“I was glad to attend the meeting as we are generally keen to support local projects, although the notice and timing of the meeting could have been better planned,” she said.
“Matthew and I operate a gym and run exercise classes. We are not opposed the idea of an indoor sports centre in the town. We are concerned, however, about how specific functions could affect our business.
“We are a small gym, but there is ample room for one to three people to work out in comfortable surroundings. When I questioned Mr Newham about the fee structure for the new centre, he said that these were unable to be estimated at this stage.
“We are also concerned about market rates, insurance, technical supervision, business hours, staffing…” she said.
