Games got underway about 8.15am, but players were sent scurrying from the fields when an electrical storm rolled in around 9am.
The under 14s and under 16s already had their two-day game cut back to a single day, limited overs match and with only two weeks left before the start of the semi finals, players were disappointed at not being able to play.
The Goulburn United team, most of whom are playing cricket for the first season, were very disappointed that play on Seiffert Oval had to be called off because of safety concerns.
The mostly girls team with one boy is mainly from Trinity Catholic College with an experienced player, Bella Roberts, from Mulwaree High, and another girl from Chevalier College. Their male teammate, Lachlan Rosenberg, has the nickname Gilligan, so the girls call themselves “Gilligan’s Girls”.
They are keen to continue next season and are hoping that more girls will form teams to boost the local competition. “They are improving all the time both with the bat and in the field,” coach James Kent said. “It is great to see their skills developing.”
