Yass animal lover Bob Tindall, also sales representative at the Tribune, and his six-month old Copperdobe Grand Marnier with the callname of Nico secured a streak of podiums, including two firsts, at recent shows in the Southern Tablelands. Nico, named after Formula One driver Nico Rosberg, competed at dog shows at the Braidwood, Gunning, Goulburn and Canberra shows and placed as follow:

- Gunning, February 19: first in baby puppy sweepstakes, best baby puppy in utility group
- Canberra, February 24–26: third in baby puppy dobermann

Nico also scored dog beds from Gunning and a juice mixer and tug toy from Goulburn. “The tug toy, he’s already destroyed,” Tindall said.
Asked about the success so far in Nico’s early life, Tindall said he was stoked. “Very happy with what he’s done. The first couple of events, he was a bit fidgety and didn’t win. But he got educated and is doing well now,” he said.
Nico, imported from New Zealand, is co-owned by Bob Tindall and his partner, Lesley Cameron, and is bred by Julie Hovell—a well known dobermann breeder in Melbourne. At the shows, Nico was guided by handler Vanessa Bourne. Tindall praised Bourne’s competencies for contributing to the success.
“She’s a very good handler. I first said to her ‘you wouldn’t fancy handling a dobermann, would you?’ and she looked up and said ‘hell yeah I would’—we haven’t looked back since.”
Looking ahead, Tindall has registered Nico for the Canberra All Breeds Kennel Club Shows on Saturday, March 11 at Epic showgrounds. The event will have international judges on the panel. Rating Nico’s chances at winning more, Tindall said he is hopeful. “You can never say yes, but it’s his last show in the baby category. I’m hoping he continues this streak to finish well in the baby class,” he said.
Nico will then enter the Yass Show in late March and then the big one—the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April.
