Joy Beeton (nee Lees) who sadly passed away last year, was the mystery lass on the trophy unearthed recently.
Rodney Howarth, formerly of Gunning and now in Goulburn, has similar trophies plus a copy of a photo taken of Gunning 1st and 2nd Classes in 1955 that includes Joy Lees. A copy will be placed in the Gunning Library to help identify others in the photo.
Poignantly another face in the photo is that of a smiling blond boy – Barry Thompson – who was killed in the Vietnam War.
SCOUTS CAR WASH
The Gunning Cubs and Scouts held a very successful car wash fundraiser at February Lions Markets. Many thanks go to all who supported them including Stuart and staff at the Metro Service Station plus Goulburn Heritage Car Club members.
The youngsters obviously did a great job as one local looking to collect his car, walked past it saying, “That’s not mine. It’s too shiny!”
If you have a child aged 6-9, bring them along on a Monday evening from 5.30-7pm to the Scout Hall on Warrataw Street.
