HOTTING UP
The campaign against the resurrected AGL gas-fired power station at Dalton is gathering a whopping head of steam. Community members are waging a very sophisticated social media blitz plus a petition with keen interest shown from various media outlets. Regrettably, all support from elected representatives at all levels of government appears tepid at best.
AGL has called a Public Community Engagement meeting for Wednesday 5 April at 7pm, St Matthews Hall Dalton. This meeting is after the original deadline for public submissions before pressure had this extended to Thursday 13 April.
AGL is requesting two years to re-consider its future options while community members were originally given two weeks to consider theirs. Various adjectives to describe this spring to mind but I will content myself with asymmetric – very.
TRIO POWER
The String Contingent, a trio of double-bassist, violin and guitarist played to a record crowd of over 60 people at the Gunning Courthouse on March 19. This award-winning trio focuses on original music in the developing genre of acoustic chamber/folk with many pieces from their recently composed new suite of music on the playlist.
As concert goer Michael de Percy enthused, “One should never underestimate the aural power of a trio and these three young musicians did not disappoint.”
The Gunning Focus Group has been bringing fine artists to Gunning since 1998. Its next presentation is Adhoc Baroque, performing at St Edmund’s Anglican Church, Sunday, April 23, 2pm. This program includes the Australian premier of Brunetti’s Stabat Mater.
