With a few new faces around the fields, there was a lot to prove to returning coach Bruce Nixon.
New recruit Sam Elliot showed some promising skills for a newly reformed hockey player.
Other new members included Nick Toole, Jack Worman, Logan Boyd, Cameron Faddy and Ben Seman, who were all showing enormous talent.
For the first game of the season, Crookwell headed to Bungendore with new faces eager to prove themselves.
Looking the part in their new kits supplied by Team Player Apparel, the first half was solid with the team taking a few points in the form of a penalty.
A break from Aaron Leighton (Red) and Angus Hedges saw the Doggies land right under the posts with a successful conversion by Dion Aramona.
The boys continued to hold their composure until two minutes to go in the second half, when a struggling defensive line saw the Mud Chooks score and convert within the first half.
The second half was much the same, but saw some brilliance from numbers 9 and 10. In the greatest play of the game, Aaron Leighton performed an amazing chip-and-chase off the 90-metre line, pushing the Dogs closer to victory.
It was a gut-wrenching game with a 21-23 win. The game showed great potential for the upcoming season and we congratulate the boys on their first win of the season.
A huge thanks to the crowd for travelling the distance to support the boys at their first game of the season.
