Three words that come to mind when thinking of dad are kind, loving and thoughtful.
Mervyn Patrick Corcoran was born in Boorowa and was one of nine children of Michael and Irene Corcoran.
In his teenage years he moved to Crookwell to live with his sister Vera and her husband Greg and worked in the wool and skin industry.
He enlisted it the Royal Australian Airforce in 1944 and served for two years.
Upon his discharge he returned to Crookwell and to the wool industry for a short time before meeting Mary Lyons at a dance who later became his loving wife of 63 years.
His first stable full time job being a married man was with the Post Office in Crookwell.
He delivered mail on a push bike to town residents in the rain, hail or shine and sometimes snow.
He spent the remainder of his working life at Kerry's department store later known as Downes as well as working the family farm on the outskirts of town.
During this time Mum and Dad were blessed with three children Brian, Trevor and Maree.
They have many fond memories of family holidays to Sussex Inlet or Narooma on the south coast or day trips to the Abercrombie River.
All three children grew up and were fortunate enough to have families of their own.
Tragedy struck when they lost their eldest son Brian in a car accident in 1982 leaving, them and the family devastated.
Dad’s sporting passions were watching any football or cricket it didn't matter who was playing.
He spent may happy hours playing lawn bowls in his twilight years.
As time went on they welcomed seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and l great-great grandchild to the family.
I think he was very proud of the family that was created when two people just happened to fall in love.
Looking around at the family and friends that were present at his recent funeral I know Dad would be very humbled at your attendance.
Dad maybe out of site but he will never be out of our minds and hearts.
- Mervyn Patrick Corcoran passed away April 5, 2017 at Bourke Street Health Service Goulburn. Late of Wade Street Crookwell. Beloved husband of Mary (dec).
