The Dogs’ young back line was challenged by Boorowa, the front runners, who scored two tries to one in the first 10 minutes.
Dogs full back Tom Worman displayed some good line speed and Dion Aramoana led a strong defence. Some Boorowa penalties saw a few conversions in the Dogs’ favour, and the team was able to take advantage of fluctuating energy from the opposition.
Despite the favourable success rate of defeating Boorowa in the past, the Dogs lost by two points, ending the game at 44-42.
Committee member Alex Horton says the team exhibits focus, week in, week out. “At the moment there is an improvement,” with the Dogs coming second on the ladder. “They’ve definitely stepped up to the plate and taken responsibility very well.”
He commended the Worman brothers, Logan Boyd, Mark Kennedy and Will Croker, and added that the younger players, who have a history of playing together, bring a fresh mind to the game and an advantage to the team. Best and fairest was awarded to Dion Aramoana (3), Steven Croker (2) and Ben Seaman (1).
The Dogs will play Braidwood Rugby Club on May 20 at 2.30pm in Braidwood.
