Upper Lachlan Shire Council recently purchased a defibrillator which will be available to Lifeguards at the Swimming Pool in the event of an emergency.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council General Manager John Bell said the machine had the potential to save lives.
“Statistics have shown that defibrillation within the first few minutes of having a sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to over 70%, and for every minute that passes the chance of survival reduces by 10%,” Mr Bell said.
“If this defibrillator helps to save one life it will no doubt be money well spent.”
Crookwell Swimming Pool also has a defibrillator on site.
All Lifeguards employed at Gunning and Crookwell Swimming Pools are trained in first aid.
