During Catholic Schools Week our students participated in visits to many of our local organisations.
Year One and Year Two commenced Catholic Schools Week with a visit to the Senior Citizens Centre. Our students loved talking with the Senior Citizens. They asked many questions about what it was like when they were students.
Year Four visited the Crookwell Early Learning Centre. The students read books and played games with the children. Lachlan and Darcy entertained the children with their outstanding guitar playing.
Kindergarten and Year Six enjoyed their visit to Crookwell Preschool. They read a book and completed an art activity with the children. Kindergarten enjoyed seeing their former teachers and classmates.
During Catholic Schools Week Year Five ably assisted shoppers at the IGA Supermarket. The students carried bags, pushed trolleys and helped locate groceries. They enjoyed offering their service to others and they showed how courteous and community minded St Mary’s students are.
Year Three, our School Choir and our talented Specialist Music Teacher, Mrs McCarthy, entertained the residents at Viewhaven. The choir sang songs and some students played the keyboard and guitar. Our Year 5 and 6 students played some notable numbers on the recorder. It was lovely to hear how much the residents enjoyed their performance.
As part of Catholic Schools Week our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Club was launched. STEM Club runs each week incorporating a range of building, construction, designing, coding and robotics tasks for our primary aged students. So far the students have constructed buildings out of toothpicks and jellybeans that could bear the weight of a book, built boats that floated to given specifications and coded ‘Sphero’, our orb robot, to complete simple challenges.
The week concluded with our Open Day and Showcase of Learning.
I would like to thank all the staff and students for the time and effort they put into making Catholic Schools Week a true picture of who we are and what we stand for. How lucky we are to have such a wonderful community!
