It will be held at Todkill Park in Crookwell on Sunday July 30, from 8am to 11am.
This is an opportunity for all residents in the Shire to dispose of their household chemicals safely and free of charge.
“The aim of the annual household Chemical Collection is to discourage illegal dumping, which can cause significant harm to people and the environment,” said Upper Lachlan’s general manager John Bell.
“I encourage all residents to take advantage of this year’s Household Chemical clean up by clearing out their garages and sheds and disposing of any unwanted chemicals and items in a safe and legal manner.”
Household quantities (up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms of a single item) of the following household chemicals and items will be accepted:
- Cleaning chemicals and solvents
- Fire extinguishers
- Pool chemicals
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Paint
- Acids and alkalis
- Gas bottles
- Poisons
- Motor oils, fuels and fluids
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
When handling and transporting chemicals, the NSW Environment and Protection Authority (EPA) advises the following:
- Never mix chemicals as this may produce dangerous reactions.
- Wherever possible keep all chemicals in their original containers.
- Ensure containers are clearly labelled and well-sealed.
- Wrap containers holding liquids securely in newspaper.
