This 31-year partnership culminated in 2001 when Barry bought the business outright.
Before this he was an industrial arts teacher at Crookwell High School for 33 years.
The reins of the business have now been turned over to Barry’s son, Bradley.
Bradley told The Gazette he was looking forward to running the business and continuing their important services in the area. One of these is sponsorship of the driver training car used at the High School. The other is the NRMA.
Brad began his apprenticeship as a panel beater and when completed, he enjoyed a year overseas on a working holiday. This adventure was cut short though when Barry was diagnosed with cancer.
Brad came home, was thrown in the deep end, and learned the business very quickly.
“It’s been great learning and working beside dad,” he said.
With Brad’s help, the sale of vehicles has grown incredibly due to the use of the internet.
They have committed to an online presence for the past 10 years. This has helped them to be able to claim ‘a sale in every state of Australia - including Tasmania’.
Barry said the vehicles themselves had changed over the years.
He remembered it was only a short time ago when mainly Holdens and Fords were found on the lot.
Now many four-wheel-drives and SUVs are the popular ones.
Brad, now 31, is engaged to be married next year to his fiance in Ireland. He is happy to settle into the business but chooses to keep his father close and handy.
“I’m planning to not be too far away keeping an eye on things but also hopeful to find more time to play with my cars,” Barry said.
This is an interest they both have and quite often they take off together to a car show somewhere.
Apart from running the business, you will also find Brad preparing vehicles for sale.
It is something he just likes to do.
